Before

Background

Sooper Kids is a handmade business. Every cap, bootie, cocoon and swaddle is crocheted by hand, in small batches, in a range of colours that changes constantly — and until the store went online the whole catalogue lived in WhatsApp threads and Instagram posts. Orders were taken by message, stock was tracked from memory, and a customer could not see what actually existed in her size and colour without asking. The brief was to move that catalogue onto a real storefront without losing the two things the business ran on: photographs that show the texture of the yarn, and a way to buy that a mother in Pakistan already trusts.

What we did

We built the store on Shopify, on a heavily customised Dawn theme, and shaped the whole catalogue around how the products are actually made — nine collections split by garment type and by whether the item is for a boy or a girl, so a shopper lands on a page of things she can actually buy rather than a single endless grid. Checkout was set up for the local reality: prices in PKR, Cash on Delivery, and a WhatsApp confirmation on every order so the customer gets a human reply before anything ships. The product templates were rebuilt around large, uncropped photography, because with handmade crochet the stitch is the product.

A Catalogue Shaped Like the Workshop: Nine collections split by garment type and by boy or girl, so a shopper reaches a page of real, buyable pieces instead of scrolling one undifferentiated grid.
Cash on Delivery, Confirmed on WhatsApp: The checkout matches how this market buys — pay on delivery, and a WhatsApp message confirming the order before it ships, which is what turns a first-time visitor into a completed sale here.
Photography-Led Product Pages: With handmade crochet the stitch, the yarn and the colour are the product. Product templates were rebuilt to show images large and uncropped rather than squeezing them into a uniform card.
Social Funnel Tracking: Meta, TikTok and Google Analytics are wired through to purchase, so the client can see which post actually sold the item rather than guessing from engagement.

How we verified it

The checks that ran before this went in front of users.

Test framework: The full purchase path — collection, product, cart, checkout, WhatsApp confirmation — was walked on Android, iOS and desktop, since the overwhelming majority of this audience arrives from a phone via Instagram or TikTok.
Load and stress: Sale periods concentrate traffic into a few hours. Collection and product templates were profiled with the real photography weight in place, not with placeholders, so the pages hold up on a mobile connection.
Security: Payment and customer data stay inside Shopify's PCI-compliant checkout; nothing sensitive is handled by custom theme code.

How it is put together

Layer by layer, and why each choice was made.

Front end: A customised Shopify Dawn theme built in Liquid, with bespoke sections written for a photography-led catalogue — full-bleed imagery, generous product cards, and a collection navigation that mirrors how the pieces are actually grouped in the workshop.
Back end: Shopify handles the commerce core — catalogue, variants, orders and inventory — so the client's team manages a live handmade catalogue from the admin rather than through a developer.
Data: Product data is modelled on Shopify's own catalogue structure, with variants carrying the size and colour combinations that a handmade batch produces and collections doing the merchandising work.
Infrastructure: Deployed on Shopify's managed hosting and global CDN, with theme changes shipped through a versioned workflow so the storefront is never edited live during a sale.
